For a while now when I would be on uneven terrain I could here the fan making contact with the shroud. When I was on the way home the other day the fan took out the hose that goes from the bottom of the reservoir-radiator. Upon further inspection the fan has been rubbing for a while The fan is actually through the shroud by about 1/6" on the right, leaving about a 1/4" of space from the hose, and about an 1.5" on the other side.
I'm thinking motor mounts does that sound right? Any help is great, have a good Sunday.
To my untrained eye I actually don't see any reason for this to happen. The motor mounts look fine (as best i can see), radiator didn't move. I parked the truck, put in gear, held brake, and gave it some throttle. The motor does move maybe a half inch or so. Is that excessive?
I doubt the motor has moved, more likely something else shifted. Maybe the shroud itself? Ever had front end damage? I'm with Pop, never heard of a mount breaking.
I believe before I got the truck it was in some kind of accident, but that was over 4 years ago. there is a bit of room on the driver side of the motor and I can't fit my hand between the right valve cover and the ac. the radiator and shroud are both firmly in place.
If the truck was in an accident, is the frame straight? The front end or the frame doesn't veer to one side, does it? That would allow the front-end sheet metal and core support to be off-center, whereas the motor mount locations may still be centered. That would have the fan off-center in the shroud, along with everything else in the front end.
Crawl underneath and verify the transmission mounting point is secure. If the rear breaks it could allow the entire assembly to twist sideways, and it will be most accentuated in the rear and fan areas, and stress the side motor mounts.
Could the water pump be out, allowing the fan to be contacting the shroud? I wouldn't think you would be able to run for very long with it out, but it's something to check.
Having difficulty taking measurements by myself. Just standing/laying there staring at the truck it looks like the motor is sitting to the passenger side. I can not find any evidence that anything has moved, except for the fan through the fan shroud on the passenger side.
