I noticed over the last few days my tranny temps were climbing and my A/C was getting hot when I stopped. I checked out the truck this a.m. and here's what I found:
It looks like the fan clutch hand-grenaded. You can see the oil running out of it and the fan won't turn on the shaft. The serpentine belt and/or the water pump pulley ate up one of the fan blades. I've read about the struggles some folks have removing the clutch from the pump pulley. I can't figure out how the damned thing just fell off.
I need this stuff now. No time for Ed. Can I source this stuff from NAPA, or will this be a $500 trip to the dealer?
Just order the stuff from Ed and in the meantime drive it.
You've been driving it off for who knows how long anyway.
Just be careful not to push the temperatures until you get the new fan.
I would consider yourself lucky more damage wasn't done!!
I second Kwik's advice to just run without a fan until you can get the parts from Ed, Just keep an eye on the temps and don't let it sit and idle too long.

As you said, the clutch went out and seized up. Then, when you turn off the engine and it stops abruptly, the fan will act as a fly-wheel and wants to keep turning. After a few times, the hub became loose and the next time just kept on turning......
You really are lucky that you still have a radiator but it would have to have come off when the engine wasn't turning.

I would agree with this failure scenario completely.
I woulda' repped ya', Dad, but 'dem police must have me in check!
Glad the damage was "minor" though I'm sure when you pay for the parts.... ouchie.
I second the idea of finding a breakers (junkyard). Heck, see what overnight is from Ed for what you need and compare that to local prices. On RARE occasion, local guys will cut you a deal. Not often though.
I sent you a PM . I have the parts you need on my parts truck.
Thanks for the offer. I truly appreciate it. Reps sent. But with summer towing season getting started, I think I'm going to buy new parts. One less thing to worry about.
Thanks for the advice guys. For various reasons I won't bore the forum with, I'm dealing with somewhat of a deadline to fix this thing. After sleeping on it (I work nights), I decided to give Ed a try. I sent him a message about 1900 local time regarding overnight shipping. Still haven't heard anything back, but if it costs too much I'll check with the local dealer. I've bought small stuff from them in the past and they can have just about anything delivered the next day.
Anybody have a phone number for Ed? I can't find it on his website.
Looking back on it, I know when this happened. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed the fan running. I didn't think much about it since the air temps have really shot up lately. I shut off the engine one day at Lowe's and heard a loud THUMP. That was when the A/C started acting up. I checked out the compressor, etc. Didn't notice the radiator fan.
