I've heard about relpacing or adding on an additional fuel pump like the holley red... my question(s) is do you bypass the ift pump or put it in before or after the lift pump? also which gph and psi rated pump is best. and finally which pump are good for diesel?
Bypass the stock unit, otherwise the diaphragm may rupture and fill your crankcase with fuel. Install the lift pump after, and as close to the selector valve as you can. The stock pump puts out about 4-7psi and 30gph.
As for the pumps, it's best to go with a diesel fuel rated unit ( I have the Facet Duralift in mine).
the lift pump is located down on the passenger side of the engine.just unbolt it.then use a block off plate to cap it.
i used:
Mr.Gasket Fuel Pump Block Off Plate #5422
then you just connect the two fuel lines you just took off the pump together.
down on the drivers side frame rail is the FSV.you cant miss it.the fuel lines go into and out of it.
follow the line you just connected together down to it,and install the E-pump down there.ground it,and run your hot from the wire you just ran(learned in that thread above.)
im still using the low cost: Mr.Gasket Micro Electric Fuel Pump-Diesel 4-7psi 35GPH #12D
and it seems to be doing just fine.though i haven't even put 10k miles on my truck yet since purchased.but iv no complaints with it yet lol.
now you'll just turn the key and the ip will be fed fuel without cranking the engine,so leaks/air intrusion/no starting/hard starting due to any future events will be a thing of the past.pretty much your only concern is fixing future fuel leaks.but besides a mess, you'll be starting and running.
your welcome.
there seems to be a mixed review of that cheap pump.i dunno,i think the key is to remove that small built in filter it has.i just went to auto zone, and showed them the pump hole and said i wanted a barbed fitting.keep clean fuel and change the fuel filter up top every 50k miles, and not run it out of fuel and it hopefully lasts.
if you want a nice one though, spend a few bucks and get a high quality carter pump.
im gunna keep running this to see what happens.im not scared lol.if she quits, ill have someone bring me another one to get home with.the mixed reviews have me worried enough that i wouldn't head out of state or anything without a backup pump.but i mainly work inside a 50 mile radius 99% of the time with this rig.
i dont drive this truck very far anyway mostly flat towing my friends off the trail and back home when they break their trucks. and a few scrap runs every month, how much did you pay for the pump if ya dont mind me askin?
yeah it works for bb chevy.i prefer to call it a sb ford block off pump though as is fit those too......so said the package when it arrived anyway lol.makes me feel better calling it that.
lol.seriously tho.yup.that one does the trick.perfect seal.
ok cool. ill have to put up the video of me towin my buddies dodge 318 25 miles back to base...after i get my truck runnin, probably nxt weekend. 12 hour shifts suck when you have to wrench on stuff after work.
