tranny question

i had my tranny rebuilt last november. they did a suncoast converter, clutches and the whole 9 yards. anyway its hot in fl now real hot like in the 100s. so im driving home and my tranny temp on my edge screen says 218. as i leave the stop light shifts ight through all the gears then hits o/d at like 43 or 45. I accelerate pretty hard after the o/d shift and the tranny felt like it was slippin kinda or thats what i think. it felt like the motor was turning but the power to the wheels was going in and out.

I called the shop today asked them about it and he asked me if the o/d light on the shifter was comming on and off and if tach was jumping while accelerating hard. i guess im just askin yalls opnion on the subject. Im going to be pulling my rig "13k or more" from TLH, Fl to Hurricane Mills TN in a month and dont want a tranny prolbem.

Is the fluid burned?

The trans should NOT slip at all when the torque converter is locked. Sounds like you've got some problems. What warranty did the shop give you? You may have to take it back to them and have them check it out.

If it's slipping like that, don't tow with it. You'll be stranded on the side of the road in no time.

THANKS CURT !!! yea i wont be towing anytime soon. when i drove today it was all back roads running 60mph. total driving time 20 to 30min tops. it reached like 160 to 170 and when the o/d kicked in and i accelerated hard it dident seem to have the issue. but yesterday was wierd. the fluid hasent been changed since the rebuild. tomm i will pull the stick and check it and smell it. the warrenty was 1 year or so many thousand miles. the guy who did it dose a really good job he knows his stuff for shure no doubt he is also a friend of mine. for the suncoast and full rebuild not including a new pump was 1500. i think just to be safe i will run it to him tues.
im not shure how accurate my edge is. i dont know how its taking the temp reading. its a programmer that stays pluged in to the obd port and displays my boost trany temp rpm ect. there is no probe in the tranny so idk if thats an accurate reading on the temp.

It's an accurate reading. It is reading the transmission's Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) sensor on the solenoid body. 218°F is getting hot but not unusual if there is a lot of stop and go, especially for someone with a heavy right foot.

ok so its accurate then. well i was runnin 75mph from one side of tallahassee to the other on i-10. prolly for like 5 to 8 min. got off and was in stop and go for 10 to 15. and i an't got a real heavy foot. nice and easy. so the heat is normal you say.... what about the slip i was feelin under acceleration after the o/d kicked in

If the trans is in overdrive with the torque converter unlocked there will be slip. That's how a torque converter works.

Except that tuning calls for the torque converter to be locked in O/D.

There are several here that have the transgo tugger and they all like it. PM Izzy( Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Profile: Izzy351 ) and he can tell you all about it. Do you have an auxiliary transmission cooler? That would be very good for you to add if you don't have one. I would do that before I did the lock up switch. It will bring those temps down especially when towing. Napa has one that will take 30 minutes to install and it's about $100. Best thing you can do to prolong the life is keep it cool.

Don't PM me -- my box is full...

What do you want to know? I would hope the builder would've taken the steps to put in a kit like the Tugger already to improve flow & shifting. If they didn't, I'd probably looking for a new builder. And yes, I love mine. I swear it's the reason my trans is hanging in there at 500ish FWHP. But the larger cooler is key. It gets to be 100-110 here in the summers, and my trans gets to ~140-150 empty on the highway, and not much more than that hammering it or in stop & go traffic. I'm running the 26-row 6.0L cooler.

It's not a 6.0 Intercooler that you need but a 6.0 tranny cooler. Just to be sure you ask for the right part.
