I park my truck in my driveway (see pic in sig) on a slope nose-high. After sitting for a few days it makes a groaning noise when drive it up and out of the driveway, but it goes away by the time i get to the end of the street... It is not a constant groan, it pulses, it groans once every tire rotation or so. This just started... any ideas what could be making a noise like that? It only happens after sitting for a few days, and i haven't experienced it on a flat-slope, only when i park it nose high. Noise sounds like it is coming from the back end somewhere.
Do you set the parking brake in your driveway? Maybe the brake shoes are dragging a little bit? I don't know if you have an auto or a manual, but you might try parking without the E-brake one time and see if it still makes the sound.
I never use the parking brake...the stupid thing barely works anyway. i back onto wheel chocks to take pressure off the parking pin and put it in park. Its an auto tranny.
Crawl under the truck, grab your driveshaft and try to spin it either direction, watching and feeling for play. If there is play in the U-joint it either needs to be replaced or will soon need to be replaced.
But, my thought was I would also check your front hubs. I guess the easiest way to check this is to lock them (without putting the truck in 4 wheel drive). If the groan doesn't occur then the hubs probably need servicing.
