I'm thinking about doing cutout flares and 38x13.5" tires. I would prefer not to go wider than a 13.5" tire, so that means all the 20x12, -50mm wheels are not an option (I think they would be too wide).
I'm needing a wheel that is at least -40mm offset, preferably -50mm. I would prefer this in an 18" wheel, no more than 11" wide if possibly and hopefully 10" wide. I'm needing that much offset because I want to fill out the flares and not rub the frame at full lock. Limiting the steering is NOT an option, and I really would prefer not to use spacers, although I would consider the steel hubcentric ones. 20" wheel is an option, but would prefer 18" for the cheaper tires and better offroading.
Please post links or info of wheels that would meet these specs, thanks!
Definitely thinking about it still. Not sure if -43 would be enough, but that's definitely the largest negative offset I've seen in a 10" wide wheel. I could go 12" wide, but I think that would look funny on a 38x13.5" tire, too balloon-like.
Well, I'm a little upset that the DC Fun Country II and ProComp Xtreme AT aren't made in the larger sizes any more... Probably would get Toyo AT in 38x13.5 or try to find leftover Xtreme ATs in 38.5x14.5. Really looking for anything AT or mild MT in the 38-38.5 range. I changed to 4.30 gears already for 37s, so not wanting to go larger or I'd feel like regearing again.

Have you thought about buying a newer 2005-2007 SD truck?
I've definitely thought about buying newer! With a reconstructed salvage title though, my truck has already depreciated out, so I don't have much to lose with it. I probably wouldn't do cutout flares on a newer truck unless I also bought it wrecked and rebuilt it. Those wider axles sure would make things easier though...

I've been thinking of the same issue. I've been looking for a 2008-2010 SD with CC LB V10 but they are so expensive and Bushwacker doesn't make the "Cut-Out" flares for them yet. I'll stick with what I have now.
All I can tell you is stay away from the XD wheels. THE CHROME SUCKS!! Mine are 22x14 with -44 offset. They stick out about 5 inches past the fenders. I have had them from less than 2 years and they pitted bad and now they are so F-ed up that I'm having issues getting them powder coated. I had them done in gloss black and they looked like crap because the chrome was bubbling under the powder. Giant PITA...I hate my wheels! They are getting sanded and redone in satin, they guy is hoping for better results.

Take those wheels to a chrome shop where they can completely remove the chrome for a better powder coating.
The '08 and newer have larger front fender openings though, so you can about 1-2" more tire without cutting.
I called Topgun Customs about lifting a 2008-2010 SD with 40" tires and they said I needed a 10" lift kit. That's too much lift for what I want to do with the truck. I'm figuring a 7" Icon lift kit will be more than enough for the current 40x13.5R18 MT tires and eventually 41X14.5R18 Irok tires.

The 4.5" kit would be enough for those tires. There's a few people running 41's with 4" lift and cutouts with no rubbing.
And about XD chrome being bad, you aren't the first I've heard that from. A friend has a set of KMC wheels (parent company of XD I believe) and he's on his second set of pitted wheels after they warrantied the first set. Thinking about some 20x12, -51mm Centerline forged wheels and getting polished instead of chrome. More upkeep, but no chrome to go bad.
