AC Compressor

My Ac Compressor cycles on then off about every 10 seconds. I can see the clutch kick on for about 10sec then it goes off for about 10sec. Will do this cycle continuously. Of course all I get out the vents is hot air. There is a small amount of oil that appears to be seeping from the rear hose I assume an o-ring issue. My assumption is I am out of Freon but will that cause the compressor to cycle like this? I guess I'll have to bring to in to someone for repair but would like to get an idea of what's wrong prior to that. <o></o>

the oil seepage will indicate a leak. 10 sec sounds likke a normal cycle. before you jump to a expensive shop, make sure the blend door is not shutting on you. can you get gauges on it and post back with readings? even the cheapie from autozone that comes with the can will give us a hint.

being low or out of freon will make a compressor cycle. it should be cycling every couple of mintues... sounds like you need to recharge it and find the leak, and then fix it, and recharge again.

Well I have never done much with AC's before but have worked on most every other part of a car/truck so I am willing to try. If I buy a set of guages how do I hook them up or would it be better I just bring it in?

alot cheaper if you do it yourself and post to us. dont just dump a bunch of freon in hoping for the best. sometimes it is just a sensor and not a real prob. but once you get a set of gauges, we can talk you through the rest. if anything, get the cheapie from autozone and get back with us.

Sorry guys but I probably will not being fixing the AC myself. I had a hell of a time reinstalling the banjo bolt under the turbo in an attempt to repair a fuel leak. I spent two days trying to get the nut back on with new bushings but just couldn't get it to start threading. I had it towed to the dealer today and will probably have them fix the AC while its there. Damn, I hate to get beat by things like this.
Anyway, thanks for the advice. I had gone out and bought cheap guages/freon but never got to the AC problem.
