ok gents... What do you like to put and where?
for me, lucas in my diesel tank and oil. Every now and again I like a little 2stroke in my fuel, or atf (fresh). What do you guys like, and what does it do for ya?

I know you missed your regular but been a while eh? j/k
I'm sleep deprived and couldn't help myself..
This will probably get deleted lol
[edit] I'd provide useful info but I've only driven my diesel engine for about 50 miles and haven't used any yet. And we never add anything to our tractors. [/edit]
Power Service Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost Fuel Additive.
8 oz does 25 gals.so i just use a full 8 oz(easy side marker) per tank.(23 gal/use around 18/20 gals per tank or so)
it keeps the injectors clean, and lubes the IP.
more cetane on top of the higher cetain rated ulsd probably makes the engine ask for slightly retarded timing to compensate for it though.likely a perfect combo for higher millage ip/injectors though lol (seriously,i was reading from Mel/the moose pump builder, the higher cetain should make us want to retard timing a bit, where most people today have thinking advancing it was the method to compensate-and he stated in another thread,as the ip wares, the timing works in the direction of retarded.)
anyway,good stuff.so they say.
why i did choose this additive with so many on the market today?............cus my momma didnt raise no fool lol:

Keep the tanks full, run a bit of Diesel Kleen winter formula, fires right up and ready to go make money.
Makes no difference if I plugged in the evening before or not at temps well below zero.

The MPG's never came back, the power never came back, but at least it was not killing engines.
Fuel in the 80's when these engines were designed was 5000 PPM+ sulphur, far cry from the less than 15 PPM of ULSD.
Last winter with the frigid temps out in the mid west the hot topic was gelling fuel.
I did some online research and found ULSD has another interesting property at cold temps called WDO (wax drop out).
WDO can and will plug fuel lines and filters with less warning than the older fuels gave with CP (cloud point) and CFPP (cold filter plug point).
Extreme cold and sudden temp swing to the lower temps seems to trigger WDO faster than the CP and CFPP were reached.
So looks like an extra dose of anti gell when temps dip suddenly is cheap insurance.
As for running ULSD, I still run Diesel Kleen every couple tank fulls, but not every tank like I was right after the change.
i run what comes out of the pump with no problems.
i have not noticed any difference with or without additives, so i save the money i would waste on them.
power service is tried and true, yes there are others but who knows with them. I have used them all and the other one i run when i cant find power service is the stanadyne lubricity formula. Never saw any reason to run lucal oil when doing the cost analysis. Darkened the same speed as rotella 15/40, no operating temp change, no fuel savings....nothing. running the rotella i can change the oil for 49 dollars and that is with an extra guard power stroke fram filter, if i use the stock regular model it is 43 for an oil change. The standard lucas here on vancouver island is 22.99 for a 4l jug. working the math i have to buy three 4l jugs and the filter. That puts me at 82ish bucks. I was just not impressed. anyone else have thoughts on lucas and why do you run it?
you don't run lucas straight. You run 1qt lucas and the rest any 15/40 you like. I was sold on the stuff when I had my 96 dodge with a 5.9l. When I bought it the oil pressure was always low until I got around 1k rpm. Even when I ran it a qt over, still no help. I added lucas and BAM! Perfect oil pressure through out the rpm range. The fuel system lube/cleaner they have works well too. Helped prolong my chevy's fuel system and their atf additive helps big time too.
I run Power Service Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost every tank. It really seemed to help out my MPG (8-12 MPG w/o it, 15-20 MPG with it) as well as made starting easier. It is probably helpijng because I am running the stock IP and injectors. lol
I don't use additives very often, however when I do, I use Stanadyne Performance Formula unless I'm specifically looking for lubricity then I use the Lubricity Formula.
I've tried many over the years and I still prefer ATF, However I do not like taking the risk and will not recommend it to others except maybe in extreme cases and I also explain the risks that goes along with it's use.
Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost with the fuel
Rotella T 15W40 in the crank case (no additives)
Red Line D4 ATF in the Transmission (no additives)
Considering going with Caterpillar ELC - or - Shell Rotella ELC ($17 Gal) when I flush the cooling system.
Both products claim to eliminate the need for added SCA's
like 93f250 said, the ELC seems to have benefits. I went another route though. I installed the coolant filter with the SCA charged filters. On my second one and damnit all i forgot to cut open the first one. I replaced it in a month and the coolant was so clear and still is. The floaties that seem to inhabit the standard tank are gone and the ring around the overflow tank has not come back. It is a bit off topic but still worth the mention.
