leave the stock air filter on it... it breaths just as good as the aftermarket ones do , and does a better job filtering.... aftermarket kits will allow smaller pieces of grit to pass through them sandblasting your turbos....
I have never heard this...in fact the opposite is widely known as the norm especially with a tuner and DPF delete.
For instance, the new AFE stage 2 is (If I remember right) tested to flow 70% more air and have a sizable tested HP gain at the rear wheels compared to the stock intake.
Also, even with the (what some have claimed) lower quality filter that comes with the Banks compared to the AFE, my intake tube is squeaky clean after 15k with the Banks intake.
Maybe if you replace just the stock filter element with a knock off K&N what you say would be true, but other than that I don't think you have done the research or have any experience on the currently available kits like the Banks and AFE.
To do a DPF delete tune that adds HP without doing the aire intake would be a waste. You would be loosing out on a heck of an improvement in throttle response and turbo spool up improvement.
IRLY, from what I have heard, the new AFE stage 2 is a bit of a pain to install but will be well worth it.
AFE stage 2 SI is a pain to install. I bought the regular AFE stage 2 and I installed in in 20 mins. I love the power it gave me and the sound of the turbo is unreal.
Thanks for confirming what I already thought. I have already removed the dpf and running a tuner. Why not spend the rest of my allowance this week and go for the gusto, right? besides I already ordered the AFE, I have to put it on now
im not a 6.4 guy.. im a 6.0 guy, i was on this side of the blog looking for some stuff for my father... 70% better air flow cant be accomplished without taking away from filtration, its just not possible unless the manufacturers make better systems for your trucks than they do for us...

I don't know about the 70% part of your statement, but the filtration is at least as good as OEM. Flow is MUCH better than OEM. What is basically sacrificed is the amount of dirt the filter can hold. Also, remember that part of the marketing for diesel trucks these days has to do with how quiet they can be. The thicker the filter, the quieter the truck is. I believe they make them so that it'll flow as much as required, but as thick as possible for the least amount of sound.

Oops, your right....I was off on the 70%. Should have looked it up before posting as my memory was off. The new AFE Stage 2 is good for a 41% flow improvement and an additional 28hp and 54lbs. x ft. torque.
