Cold Air intakes and Dusty roads

I just installed in my 2004 F-150 a Volant Cold Air intake (with the filter box).
I drive quite often bad roads (unpaved) and which have a lot of gravel and dust/dirt,etc..

Does this affect the air intake? Or should I rather stick to Ford's original air intake kit?

-- Second thoughts --

Free flowing intakes do allow more dirt into your engine, and if you travel alot on dusty roads probably another mod would be better for you. There is alot of articles on this issue already and I'll sum them up.. Free flowing intakes are great for the city driver-they give more horsepower and better mileage..but if you spend alot of time in industrial work zones or travel on dirt roads they may do your vehicle harm.

I think Volant cold air intake is very good. The sounds great...

Wolfdog, Did you purchase the Ram Air Scoop with your Volant?I bought the ram air scoop and cannot get it to align between bottom of Volant air intake and the tow hook area where it is sopposed to bolt up.I have been unable to talk to anyone at Volant.I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem?

Yes, I had some initial problems to fit the Volant air box aligning with the air tube. The OEM air tube support was a bit too high. First I though to remove the support but then left it. Then I just forced the Volant tube and box to get aligned -- the pieces of rubber hoses/tubes help a lot that come with Volant. Afterall everything was fine.

Again -- I took the Volant out, because I'm concerned about its filtering capability....I haven't seen any independent tests.
