Yea they got me in Oct. 07 for mine. If I had know I would have gotten a real clean 03 7.3 down south or out west with not rust and low mileage..
My father is the actual owner of the truck but says the same thing every day that ends on "Y," could've gotten a 7.3. I'm now just trying to figure out how to not use the truck and get through the next couple of years. Cost too much to operate for a business.

I agree..back in the day it was common knowledge not to buy the first year of a new vehicle.
but...I bought the hype. watched the videos of the 3 f-450 towing the trailer all over the country for over 250k miles. I thought , hey they worked out the issues....
3 radiators, 3 programs, 1 dpf replacement (after 3 TRIPS TO ARGUE WITH THEM THAT IT WAS BAD) 1 o-ring on the power steering (which is also showing up more) and finally the slowly decreasing mileage.
and I am a ford fanatic (now a little leary) the rest of the new 08 was awesome. the towing/tranny interior.
but the new dodge is getting 16 unloaded to my 10 in the ford. so for 20k on avg a year i put on a truck
@ 16 mpg = $3750 spent in fuel
@ 10 mpg = $6000 spent in fuel....
@ 16 mpg = $3750 spent in fuel
@ 10 mpg = $6000 spent in fuel....
that is $187. a month difference in fuel alone.
I run a business with mine. I would be safe to say that my fuel bill would be cut-in-half every month if I didn't have that stupid DPF device and put some HP behind this thing. Being a small business owner, every dime counts.
Try doing a comparison over 100,000 miles of the truck with an average price per gallon. You'll be amazed.

I did it. I found a real cream puff, a 2001 SC lariat, 7.3L, auto, 2WD, LB, 100K on the clock and bone stock. Took the 5er hitch out of the '08 installed it in the '01 and unloaded the job 1 '08. I was spoiled by the performance of the 6.4 especially when towing. So, I had John Wood rebuild the tranny, install a 6.0L tranny cooler, gauges (water, trans and pyrometer) and a DP Tuner w/ 40,60,80hp tow, 80hp econ and decel tunes. Installed 4" turbo back exhaust. I now have a truck that gets great mileage, tows great and none of that smog crap. another plus, especially for us in California, the tags and insurance cost about half.

This in my opinion is the only way to go. Get a tranny that can handle the extra power of the chip and you are set with the 7.3. I'm jealous.

Just to make you a little more jealous, it sounds and smells like a real diesel truck. And a total investment of just north of 16 grand. Bought the '01, sold the '08 and was able to put a few bones in the bank. Makes for happy camping.

Thanks for the info. The reason I ask is the overhead mileage display reads between 24 and 26 mpg @ 2000rpm. Prior to installing the chip it was usually only off by a mpg or two.
I know it's called a lie-o-meter but it now tells bigger lies. Just wondering what effect the chip has on the display.
