I would think between trade in value and price of new truck the money you loose will be more then the extra fuel costs for years because your still not going to get 35 miles a gallon.

I understand your MPG issue. I had a 2008 Job 1 F250 Reg Cab 6.4 4x4 and was getting 10.9 city and 11.9-13 Hwy. New transmission at 13K and a couple of Rads. I traded it in on a 2010 F350 Reg Cab 6.4 4x4 and I'm still getting 11 city and no better on the HWY at 65-70 unloaded. I do have the 20" factory wheels & tires, but that shouldn't make a huge difference.

I don't understand how some folks on this forum are getting 16-18 MPG out of a 6.4? Their luck must be better than mine.

Also I would check the forums out on the 08-2010 Dodge trucks before I would make a purchase. I have read that there have been a lot of issues with the DPF on the Dodge trucks. Several lawsuits involving warranty claims.

The Ford's dominate the heavy duty truck market and resale value!

I would agree....except ive had the tires/4.10 since the truck had 4k miles on it.

WHY would it get 12-13 hwy when the motor had 5k miles on it then go DOWN slowly to 10 mpg (9.8 last tank EMPTY) when it has 45K miles on it driving over the same roads/trip ?

I believe some trucks have minor fuel changes . I live out west and we have hills.

I more pissed at ford because I ve used the same dealer ...and all I get is SORRY no CEL so its normal

I think its cause ford is still using the 5 speed trans. in 2011 they have a new 6 sp double OD like dodge has been using since 2008

I hang out on the dodge boards also due to still owning a 98 quad cab.(with 245k miles on, 4x4, and getting 18mpg. the truck is kinda junk though)

the 08 had some teething issues due to programing. I think they went throught 9 revisions, and also had problems with the VVT turbo but they have been resolved.

I think guys that live in the midwest where its flat and most speed limits are still 55 maybe getting 16.

I love the ford, and its a king ranch (still think ford has the nicest interior thay all 3 hd trucks).

I know. I wish it got 20 mpg

heres my math.

I still owed 34 months @ 7% interest. = $140 a month in interest

I put around 20K miles a yr on the truck

20,000 miles @ 10 mpg = 2000 gal @ 3.00 = 6k in fuel

20,000 miles @ 15 mpg = 1333.3 gal @ 3.00 =3999.9 in fuel (dodge has double OD trannys)

2000 in fuel = $167 EXTRA in fuel per month

so dodge is offering 0 % for 36 months, 1.9 for 48 & 60 months

so taking 267 x 34 = $9078 = 12 months of payments for me

so I took my payment from 34 months to 60 months = 26 months extra with the interest and fule savings i can recoup 12 months. sooo Im paying a extra 14 months on a NEW truck that is loaded and they gave me a 6yr 100k bumper to bumper warranty. (since its 1.9 % im only paying 40 in iterest a month now)

I bought a loaded laramie for 50.00 over invoice

drove it home and the lie-o-meter said 15.1 mpg. (did vary speed from 55-75 for break in)

I know the feeling you have but in a slightly different way. I had a 2002 7.3 and loved it.Tillthe truck started falling apart. This year i spent over 2000 on it for stupid stuff. Then my trans started slipping when acceled hard. So i went and looked long and hard at the big 3. Decided to go with the 2010 dodge since i saw a 6.4 run off and blow up the chevy just not for me and the 6.7psdis too new and i dont like its design. I went with the dodge. I LOVE THIS THING!!!!!!!!!!!! Its ag56 manual and the exhaust brake is awsome. I still own a 19947.3idi and a 1995 7.3psd and will always be a ford guy but i dolove this new dodge. Gets about 16mpg which is what my 7.3s get average. Ill be buyin a H&S tuner soon and ill get into the 18.5 to 20 range. Best i ever got on my 7.3 was 18 to be honest it was a bit of a fuel hog but still liked it. Hope all works out

It sucks cause I am a ford guy......BUT I'm liking the new truck. the interior is very nice (Laramie) the heated and COOLED seat are nice since the leather can get hot out here

the wife just drove it and the truck is now reading 15.9 on the lie o meter with 500 miles on it.

Ill hand calculate the mpg even though the truck is new. its looking good though with 230 miles on the tank and over 1/2 tank left (bout 5/8)

like I said, if the dealer or ford would have taken the time to troubleshoot it a little more , maybe I wouldnt have switched...but I was down to 9.8 mpg. it sucked ..Id drive 350 miles and be down over 1/2 tank with a 60 gal titan tank....my 98 doesent come off full till theres almost 170 miles on it and it regulary sees 17 with me driving and 19 with the wife.

Spartan tuner and a DPF/CAT delete pipe and your MPG's will be up in the teens.

I have an april of 07 manufactured first generation, I have had no problems, radiators, etc. I am getting 13+ in town, 18.6mpg if I keep it at 62. I just finished a 1500 mile round trip, most of it at 70-75mph, averaged just under 16mpg, hand calculated. My lie-o-meter is really close to hand calculated. I have a short bed, crew cab 4x4 F250 automatic, not sure of the gearing, 4X4. I have a canopy on it, with 18 inch stock wheels with a 1.5 inch lift. My exhaust tips are black and always have been, it smokes just a tad under full throttle. Stock program, stock truck. So, why the huge range in MPG? I feel lucky!

I have the 4.10 rear.. don't think there is ANY way to get into the teens solid and on 17's cause of the DRW..

Am I to take it that my mileage is going to drop off drastically after I get 20k on my truck? I hear a lot of it drops off, etc, but I don't hear anything that says what has been done.

Are you getting 4mpg (facetiousness) in the winter and then it climbs in the summer? Tire pressure is a KILLER in these trucks. When was the last time the fuel filters were changed? Do you REGULARLY run a cetane booster with lubricity? Have you checked your air filter lately?

I'm not being a ********, but I have to ask since you own a DIESEL, and these things don't normally get worse mileage over the miles unless you're missing something.

Just asking as mine is increasing. All the way to 19.2mpg doing 70mph down to Denver today...It's downhill coming back too...somehow.

Edit: I will grant that the 19.2 is by the lie-o-meter, but it's usually pretty close...

Met a guy driving a 2002 Dodge at the campgrounds couple of months ago. He was pulling a 39 foot 5er and said he was getting 21 mpg on the hiway. I said nice and walked away. Listen to the bull and spend your money. It's your's just like the truck is.

I run my silent armor tires at 65PSI. I use Lubrication engineers BTU+ fuel additive. I did not see my mileage increase with miles, I now have 32K.

OK bavrit, since you say the exhaust tips are black is the truck going into regen? The tips should not be black on a "properly operating" DPF equipped truck. I'm not suggesting you change yours, I'm thinking we need to clone that sucker. Do you have any idea why the tips are black? Did you buy the truck new, if not are you sure it's not been tampered with somehow? Even if your differential is a 3.73 which it probably is that's still pretty good MPGs for a 6.4, not great but better than most of the stockers I read about.
