Was standing outside by my truck when i had the only key and it started up by itself. Waited the 15minutes for shutdown and it never shut itself off..
I wonder if this can explain my 7mpg that i somehow averaged a few weeks ago...
Just being random here, first time ive noticed it and it gets parked about 300yds away from my apartment so i couldnt notice it at night if i wanted too.
Dang that would scare the heebie geebies out of me, it's a good thing you hadn't just climbed under the hood for something, I guess that's another good reminder to always disconnect the battery before servicing the vehicle.
I would think the hood safety switch to override that. If the truck is running it will kill it. I dont know exactly how its designed if its ecu controled on that safety or if its a manual override

I'm not so sure, using that logic wouldn't the lack of key in the ignition have also prevented this? Does the truck have a keyless remote start system?
not that this will fix the problem.... but you can supposedly disable the remote start feature through the Message Center.
I saw the option when I was fliping through the message center tonight but I have not tried it.
Perhaps the truck's computer has gained self awareness. Since you were nearby with the key, it thought you were ready to go somewhere and was getting ready
Yea it has remote start... and its so hot down here i use it daily so turning it off isnt an option
I agree, great option but was just thinking you could shut it off at night until you get it fixed. Obviously it has a problem and disabling the feature will not fix it but might save you some fuel when it is parked for extended periods.

Can the dealer switch the parameters so that it won't start with out you pressing the remote? I know aftermarket units often have that auto start every couple hours option so that your car will continue to start in extreme cold weather. Doesn't make sense that they would make it have to turn on by itself, not exactly great for fuel economy.
