Timing chain question, in a mild engine build for a high mileage daily driver. I'm looking at running a comp cams 270hr which is a hydraulic roller that runs 566th lift. Durability is my number 1 concern, I seem to be pulling double rollers out every other year due to chain stretch as it is with my current 480th lift flat tappet combo. I put timing gears in once but the noise drives me nuts.
comp cams offers both a double row roller timing set or a cheaper link belt setup (which I know as a morse chain). I was always under the impression morse chains (link belt) were much more resistant to stretch & that's why they use them in transfer cases ect but probably don't like rpm's so much.
What's the consensus on durability for a mild setup running 5000 to 5500rpm rarely.
have you tried a 'quiet' timing gear set? i had 1 and it didn't make any noise.. i took mine out and threw it on the shelf in my shop because i looove the sound of the noisy set
Could you please tell me what brand/series your quite gear set was. I would be keen on a known quite brand/series gear set, its just an expensive trial & error experience to find out the traditional way.
