Just got my trans cooler by Tru-cool (4739-1 kit), with the 99-03 kit. The instructions are rather vague. What part of this is the 99-03 adaptor? Got a bag with 4 brackets, 2 hose adaptors, 2 outlet fittings, 3 band calmps and nuts and bolts. Small bag with 2 band clamps and 2 nuts and bolts???
I found a post where Roland posted a drawing last december of where to splice into on the return line from the stock cooler, if I understand correctly cut the hose on the return line and one end of the new cooler goes into each end of that hose? Do I need to reposition the metal tubing or do the hose's fit OK? If anyone has installed this cooler, I could sure use some advice. Thanks much.
Oh one last time, Mercon or Mercon V? I just can't get this right. Gota do the flush before I hook this up.

Brackets and screws will mount the cooler to the radiator - not really much of an adaptor kit but it works. Mercon or mercon V is ok. I beleive they are interchangable now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck

You do not cut that hose. You run one hose from the TruCool to the cooler line and connect it with a clamp. You connect the the hose removed from the cooler line to the other hose from the TruCool with a splice made from 2 of the hose barb fittings. The ears brackets with holes on the Tru Cool will line up with the upright bars behind the grill and allow for mounting to them with the 2 bolts on top. I used HD zipties at the bottom. Or, you could use the supplied universal bracket to add more bolts at the bottom mounts. Hope this makes sense.
I just installed a true-cool on mine. What i did was remove the return line from the stock cooler and hook it up to the bottom line on the true cool and go from the top outlet on the true cool to the line where the stock cooler was connected. It a pretty easy job. Heres a link to the thread I started when I did mine Jason has some good pics on how to mount it. I would just use the Mercon V to top it off. I only needed to add a little over a pint to get it back to the full line on the dipstick. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...r-install.html
I think it's bigger, but point is moot because it's used in addition to. Well at least I think I remember it is, it's a been little while. Now you got me thinking...
OK, thanks to all. Got it figured out after much sleep and your help.
I understand I need the Mercon V. That stuff is actually hard to find. No gallons in the area.
Getting ready to do this my-self. I think I understand the hose routing Roland described. My kit came with 2 different hose sizes, 3/8 by short & 23/64 long which directions say to connect to drivers side of tru-cool. The 3/8 hose seems pretty loose on any of the barb fittings. Are there supposed to be 2 different hose sizes?
Dean, I gota wait till next week because I want to do the flush too. Let me know how it goes and any suggestions you might have. I'm just gona flush and refill with Mercon, I can't find any gallons of the Mercon V around here.
I have the same hose's too. the 23/64 sure seams like a better fit
