thanks. a good friend of mine has the code reader. the problem is when there are no codes!
it just seems like when the icp goes bad, you will still get some starts. it seems like when the ipr goes bad the show is over, truck dies, no codes. This is what happened to me, although i must admit i did think the idle was jagged.

As a follow up...
I wish I would have fixed it myself, but unfortunately I caved and took it to a shop! I need to reevaluate my tool collection and I ran out of time!
It was the IPR valve and it did have a hole in the screen. For anyone who may want to know, the cost was $700. The part is around $300 at the dealer. It was something I definitely should have been able to do myself.
Thanks for the help with the diagnosis and the tech manual is great. I learned a lot and plan to work on that thing myself in the future....not that it will ever break down again!!
