I was driving my F250 Harley (Turbo) on the highway and it just outright died. Fuel pump is good and just changed the filters. So i was under the impression the next thing would be the CPS. I read that it could be the power chip but I dont know where that would be. Any thoughts?
you need to know what the icp pressure is. check the tech folder on how to do this. check for stored codes.
there are a few things that can cause this. check fise f2-22, check wiring to fan clutch, check fuel pressure.
if you have nothing to go off at that point you can remove and inspect the ipr valve.
no starts. no codes came up when we put it on the computer. the truck just died. completely. no check engine light. the only thing i have read that resembles the issue i am having is the CPS sensor. i actually went and bought one but i cannot see/access it.
Put it this way...this is my first diesel and i am not good at trouble shooting. i can replace parts, but i dont know what icp pressure is or how to check fuel pressure. i also dont know what an ipr valve is, but i will google it. i didnt know what the CPS was until i read about it today.
yea, thats all above my pay grade. i gotta take the top fuel filter assembly off to access the ipr valve in the V of the engine? and my take on it is that i would need an independent icp pressure gage for diagnosis. they warned me to go ahead and take it to the shop...but still i refuse!
once again if you read the tech folder you would see it can be done by measure voltage at the icp sensor. if you have more then .8v cranking then its good.
you dont remove the filter housing to remove the ipr. once again you are looking at info for a 7.3. you have a 6.0. the ipr is behind the turbo on the high pressure oil pump.... tech folder for that info as well
not tring to sound or be rude just tring to point you in the right place for the correct education you seek. there are a number of people here with a lot of knowldge but you will have to do some work to learn it.
I for one am glad to help you.
Im in San Antonio. New to the forum. Not rude, its fine...i see the tech folder info...still learning my way around here. Its all good and organized, but im not much of an "enthusiast" until something goes wrong. other than that i just drive around and look "down" on every one else on the road on my way to go kayaking or camping or hunting...or work i suppose
i was just telling my daughter that i am Civil...not Mechanical. ill do some homework tonight and get back at it again tomorrow. Thanks again.
I saw that. When i fix my truck Ill browse a little more and look at the Texas chapter.
The icp sensor seems to be a problem with the 03/04s. I heard when i was looking for a truck not to get an 03/04. It also seems like a bad icp sensor would show a code.
after reading through all the suggestions, it seems the most likely culprit is the ipr valve and/or the HPOP thing. now here is where i give permission to call me an idiot, but i read that is located behind the turbo, but i dont know where that is or what it looks like. when i was under the truck i didnt see a sign that said "turbo". But seriously, if i pulled the thing out, how would i know if it was good or bad?
the turbo is the big thing in the center of the engine. If the ipr screen has a hole in it or it is sucked in or there is a blockage in front of the screen then its bad. other then that it would take a little bit of diag skills.
These two will give you a really good idea where the basic components are located and the second one gives you a list of trouble codes. Get yourself a Scan Gage II to read codes with. It can save you a TON of cash at the dealership (with a little help from your FTE brothers.)
