Unhappy help needed quickly

i own an 89 f250. it's 4x4 and has a 5.0 motor. the motor itself only has about 20,000 miles on it.

we got it to running condition about 4 months ago. but now we are finding more problems.

1) when i first start it up it revs up then shuts down
2) almost or does shut off when i accelerate
3) check engine lights on unless I'm on the gas
4) when it does decide to run and stay running i have a semi rough idle

things i have done and or replaced

-cleaned throttle body
-replaced ignition control module
-replaced throttle positioning sensor( when we took the old one off and got the new one we were unsure the orientation of the new sensor----would this effect my problem)

i was told to check it IAC and my EGR. do any of you have any idea what could be causing this and how i could fix it

any help would be great

thanks again

I would also say EGR. I had a van that sounded like yours.

X3 or 4 whichever the case may be.

Yea I'd check the IAC, remove and clean it see if that helps.

EGR valve, make sure its not sticky and that its fully closed at an idle.

Vac leaks, go over it thoroughly and make sure nothing is disconnected or leaking. '89? yours has the metal can rather then the plastic type on the passenger side inner fender? make sure the bottom of its not rusted out.

I would also suggest reading the codes. This is my prefered tool for that.

Amazon.com: Equus 3145 Ford Digital Code Reader: Automotive

I will add another vote for the IAC valve. From my experience cleaning them doesn't always do the trick. You could try it, but about half the time it doens't work. I just replace them.
