does any one know what would cause a hard to start problem? It dose not matter if the eng is hot or cold. When I turn the stater motor on it turns over then as it tries to start it turns over faster and faster untill I finally get ignition.I got both of my batts tested and they are fine 900cca on one and the other is 1000cca thanx jeff
diesels need fuel, compression, high torque/ cranking speed, and warm cylinders to fire.
the first thing to test is your GP system, and starting system.
did you test the glow plugs yet?
what year is your truck? 6.9/7.3?
when was the last time you cleaned the battery cable connections?
did you inspect the cables? look closely at the passengers side battery terminal where the other battery cable and starter cable meet for any signs of dark/burnt coloration and or swelling.any green corrosion inside your wires is a huge drag on your starting system and wears the starter hard.
mine was black here,so i cut it open to find it filled with green corrosion/powder.i replaced them all and she now spins super fast again.
I'd also be looking over the electrical side of things, check and clean your ground connections (one on either side of engine down on the front of the block.) Check the connections at the starter, and take a peek at the wire going from the solenoid to the starter itself, this can sometimes be a weak link and burn up etc due to being overheated with excessive cranking.
