Well, i have heard good and not so good about turning you drag into a Z link. I think if its not to severe of angles and is well gusseted i think it would work well but i have never done it so before i do it to my rig i thought i would ask.
The first time I heard "Z link" it was around Scout guys. That's what they do to their drag links to clear the leaf springs after a lift. I have a slight "Z link" on my wheeler to keep the rod ends on the drag link from binding up. I think more info about ur application. Is needed.
I know this is ford forum but this is actually for my 1974 jeep Cherokee. I am getting a dropped pitman arm but am still going to need a little more to clear my leaf so this is my idea because i cant go to a high steer because i do not have a pas side flat top knuckle or i would so i am going to keep my inverted T and build a new drag link with a slight bend it and gusset it.
I really cant do a cross over because i have no way to mount the drag to the knuckle because its not a flat top. What i think i am going to do is put the hole in my tie rod in between the leaf springs and just run a dropped pitman. I was checking it today and it won't hit the leaf plus with the pitman arm dropped it's not going to have a very harsh angle. And this way i wont have to build a new drag. Now the thing is i have a big tie rod but i am going to have to put a hole trough it to mount the drag. I think if i reinforce it well around the hole it's not going to be an issue. Plus this rig is not a street rig, off road only. By the way the axles are 80's Chevy full widths.
You make all new tie rods and have 3/4 rod ends on the ends of them. Than the main tie rod from side to side bolts on the bottom of the knuckles, and the drag link on the top, or, you bolt them both on the top on the passenger side, and weld a flat piece to the knuckle to make a double sheer for the bolt on that side. Its allreally simple.
