Why is it that older people who's kids are grown and gone build huge homes? My wife and I get lost around our 2,500sf home (our kids are gone), but our friends (who had NO children) just built a 7,000 sq ft new home!

That is insane, especially when you consider the State of Rhode Island's entire 2010 operating budget is just 7 Billion!

I know that people who have the means have the right to spend it as they see fit, but spending that much money on a house in essentially a 3rd world country speaks volumes to the character of the owner.
