i did it and then my next time i went to my deisel shop that specalizes in idis they gave me a bad time for cutting it off he said it ruins the vortex effect.
Meh, I never bought into that "vortex at the intake" stuff. What is it supposed to set up a votex that flows into the intake, makes a 90* turn, follows down an intake port, through a valve opening, into the cylinder, up through the pre-chamber hole and aid in fuel atomization at the injector? HA!
The only reason anyone ever claims a HP increase with one of them 2 dollar add on devices they pay 50 bucks for is because they know they spent 50 bucks on a 2 dollar gimmick and they want their butt dyno to feel good after taking it in the rear to buy it
My vote is that they put it in there as a resonator to reduce engine intake noise.
Wow, that sure seemed to help mine. Just cut mine off today with an air powered cutting wheel. Sure doesn't look like that bowl under the top air cleaner lid would be of any beneficiance.

Yeah but there's gotta be a reason for FORD to have done it in the first place... or IH, whoever designed the intake.
Noise is one idea, never thought of that before. I know that when I drove around the block with the air cleaner off one time it sounded so sexy I could hardly contain my giddines.
But that's not what manufacturers want, haha.
I've read a lot about people not feeling any difference at all. Perhaps it doesn't do as much on a stock intake as on one modified for cold air or a second intake tube into the filter housing(which would be cool).
So that's three so far for cutting it... any more with hands-on input?
One of these days when I get time, I'll cut one off a lid here, and do a video with each to run a comparison. Only thing is the only road legal IDI is my dually right now, and it needs a pump and injector set in the worst way.
