i was wondering about cutting the soupbowl out of the aircleaner. Would it effect the air temp in the winter and how about getting rid of the back pressure in the exhaust. I would like to get some more power out of the truck but still want it run in the winter. thanks
i was thinking the bowl might restrict the air enough in the winter to warm the air. and some back pressure in the exhast could be used to heat things up .. either that or maybe im thinking to much . i thought i might get some more opinions before i change things.
I removed my soup bowl before I went with the turbo.
Made a slight increase in power (very slight)
Made checking the air filter much easier, you can actually remove the lid without removing the entire assembly.
It was installed to quite the under hood noises. I did notice a slight increase in the noise but not much.
Fuel mileage increase - I don't know, if it did increase the fuel numbers it was not by much. Because I don't remember it.
BTW the colder the air, the more dense it becomes so it contains more O2, which means more power because you get a more complete burn of the fuel your already dumping in the engine. The reason most folks see a power decrease or fuel mileage decrease in the winter is because the fuel is blended to keep it from gelling up in the cold temps. So to offset this run some Stanadyne Performance Formula in the winter, and Stanadyne Lubricty Fromula in the summer. The reason for the Stanadyne is two fold - one it helps lube the pump, and increases the burn factor.
the Forum rules don't allow me to link to where you can purchase the stuff on line, so find your local injection shop they should have it.
I've had trouble finding the Stanadyne products locally...so I'm getting ready to order them online. I'm surprised that none of the shops, including truck stops, seem to carry it.
i changed the exhast from a stock muffler and a 2 1/4 tailpipe to a cherry bomb and 3" pipe and tail and im totaly impressed with the diffrence. gained alot more power and sounds alot deaper at mid to high speed. its a whole new truck im impressed.
