Next Question

Took the truck out for a test drive after disconnecting the Edge system and it runs fine. Could be my mind playing tricks on me but it seems to run better than it has for a while now? Assuming the chip was the issue and since I'm not going to replace it, is it okay to run the truck long term with the Edge wiring still in place? I guess I could remove it all but if its not gonna hurt anything I'll just leave it.

Thanks,

Brian

Yes, if there is oil in the plug the plastic diapham in the sensor has ruptured.

Driving around on a bad sensor can eventually damage the wiring itself.

When you set "plugged in" boxes like that to "stock," you're runnin around on edge's stock tune. Not ford's stock tune.

Also, if the wiring harness for the edge has any shorts or broken wires, only part of the truck may be runnin tuned, even in "stock." The rest of the truck may be in total confusion.

So, it very well could be runnin better than it was in edge's stock tune.

I know Dodge guys that have switched from edge to other tuners, and left the edge plugged in to use as gauges. Supposedly a few of them picked up horsepower on a dyno by unpluggin the edge.

Bottom line, edge boxes are weird. There are much better options availible.

I don't know what to tell ya. If you're not going to use it, I personally wouldn't leave all that other wiring crap hooked up. I would remove it completely and put all the wiring back to its original form to prevent any future issues. But I'm not an Edge fan because of the way it works, so take it for what it's worth. Plus if you decide to get a custom tuned chip later on you'll be set.

Dump the edge and get a DP tuner. Gets some gauges and replace the ICP. I had a Edge evo and now the DP - Chalk and Cheese. And your ICP is bad..

Power Source

Again thanks for all the help.

As far as the Edge system goes where does it draw its power from? I disconnected the grey cable that runs between the dash mounted control box and box under the hood, but have I really "killed" the tuner? The control box is dead but is the Edge system still having an effect? If this same check eng light/loss of power occurs again I'd like to be pretty certain I've ruled out the Edge system before trying to go back to the dealership. I guess what I'm asking is how can I eliminate the tuner to make certain its not effecting the engine with out totally removing everything under the hood. Is it possible that its "dead" now? The dam things wired in to about 5 or 6 points on the truck and I'm not certain the stock connectors still exist? I know I don't have the stock wiring harness for the acc./pedal sensor. With any luck I won't have the problem again.

Here is a link to thier instruction manual.
Included in that manual is the install instructions.
Just do everything that they say except in reverse and you will have uninstalled the Edge.

The Edge Tuner has been totally removed from the truck and all seems to be okay. Much easier to remove than I thought it would be. Now it's just waiting game to see if that's what was causing my issue's? I'm pretty certain it was but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks again for all the help.
