I am scared....
It fires up and runs well at about 800rpm above idle and up, but hits and misses at idle and dies. When I time it properly it runs worse. I havn't done a compression or leak-down test yet. It may be carb. Just thought I'd ask what you all might think before I jumpped head first into it.
Thanks!
What kind of plugs...and what kind of shape are they in??? Vacuum leak or a bad vacuum advance possibly. Is the carb recently rebuilt or not??? If not what does it look like...greasy mess or ??? Carb tag/info would be good to post too...if no tag there may be a code stamped on the base mounting flange as I know the AutoLite 2100s are.
if plugs are good...check the gap...should be .032 to .036 and all should be dry and look the same. Look at the inside of the cap for tracking ...the idle speed screw may be set too slow also...
Timing is6 degrees for manual trans and 10 degrees for automatic. The point gap is .024 to .026 or the dwell angle is 35 to 38 degrees. Its compression should be 150-200...but on any engine the variance between the readings shouldnt be greater then 20 pounds.
Idle speed is 500-525(in drive for automatics)
It might just need a thorough tune up...btw, the specs I listed above are from the 65 shop manual but I suspect the ones in the 66 manual would be the same.
