I have a 2005 6.0 and love it by the way! I have heard that it was bad for it to idle at its idle speed when its just sitting there? How is this bad? And if so what is the best thing to add to get it to tach up? Does idleing damage the truck? I like to leave mine running but have been told its bad to leave it running at the regular idle rpm.
It all depends on how long you leave it idle. During extended periods of idling, wet stacking can occur where unburnt diesel will accumulate in the cylinders and run down the cylinder walls into the crankcase, consequently reducing lubricity and causing all sorts of nasty damage to your engine. If you notice your oil level going up on the dipstick over time you may have wet stacking issues.
I would suggest that you get the high idle mod done buy either yourself or a dealer will install a high idle switch for you. I also used my SCT to increase my idle RPMs to 725rpm.
How much would it be to add this at the dealership. I am thinking I am going to take it up there and just tell him to add it.

It really only takes an hour at most but they will likely charge you two and you could use one of the up-fitter switches if you have them but the dealer will likely install a separate switch and charge you for that also. I just guessing but I think a couple hundred should cover it. There is also a detailed do it yer self write up on here but I can't find it right now. Some one else will likely chime in with the document.
awesome! I hope someone finds it. I hope letting it idle at a higher rpm will help with the white smoke issue. In the morning the truck puts out white smoke for a good while and its not dense at all but i do notice a little white smoke for a long while every morning as it sits. I hope its ok and this will solve the problem.
if you already have the switches it only takes about 20 minutes to do it yourself, if not the switches can be bought for $96 shipped at powerstrokeshop.com. i bought them and installed them it was very simple and only took about an hour. unless you have no mechanical skills what so ever i wouldn't pay a dealership to do this.
if i'm not mistaking, you can't use the upfitters if you have a manual tranny....this correct? I really wanted to do a high-idle mod on my truck, but couldn't b/c i have a manual

when did you last change the air filter ?
i know this is a long shot, since your smoke is probably related to tuning, but just fyi white smoke is indicative of clogged air filter if all else fails
White smoke is also a very common sign of a bad glow plug or injector.Extended idling in diesel engines is bad some more than others. The unburnt fuel rides on the piston cooling the cylinder. The causes the next fuel pulse to stack on the previous (hence the term wetstacking) liquid does not compress so internal enigne damage can result.
I have a manual tranny and the high idle mod worked just fine. Do a forum search and you'll come up with the directions that are specific for the 6 speed.
I have never changed the air filter and the truck has 49,000 miles on it. The dealer said it looked good on the last service.

Yes mine does as well. What I am wanting is for it to tach up when it is sitting. I tow race cars and when I am at the track, sometimes I leave the truck running for power in the trailer. Its warm BUT it needs to be tached up in order for the motor to be protected. Everyone always said its better for diesel to be left running.
