Had mine done last year, only took a few minutes. The best part was the very concerned letter I got from Ford warning me not to park it in my garage where it has been parked every night for the last ten years. 17 years to figure out the cruise control might be a fire hazard? Got to love that.
I just unplugged both mine, I don't use cruise control anyway.
If I lived where it was flat or more of it was flat land yea I might but not with the hills here by me, tends to kill what little fuel econ I do get using it.

the problem starts from a faulty brake switch on the master cyl...all the harness does is add an inline fuse to keep it from catching on fire..the whole recall is to replace the switch if its leaking...add the harness and put electrical grease on the CC harness....
i am a diesel tech at ford and i do these recalls every day
Mine actually caught fire while I was playing with the belt or something a long while back. I grabbed the wire and ripped it off and it stopped. Checked online for similar problems, saw the recall, they replaced the switch and harness and the problem was solved.
I just got my letter last week, stating that dealers have the parts now to repair it. Evidently when there was a parts backlog, the switch was simply unplugged.
I don't use my CC either, so my switch has been unplugged for a while now...
I'll bring it in eventually, just to be on the safe side.
