Retreads?
#2
I think for the most part they have become less popular due to cheap imported tires.

If you want caps for a mud truck, you may find that cold caps, which are denser rubber and last longer, are not available in an aggressive tread design. Hot caps, made from a softer rubber, are more aggressive, but don't last long. I don't recommend caps for extended highway use, as the heat build up will cause them to separate. The damage to your truck will be heart breaking. Local driving or off road no problem, even on the front. You can tell some big rigs use them by the rubber laying along the road.

yes but, I would only run them on the rears...just like the big rigs do! In federal regs, on fire apparatus & school buses, they are prohibited from running them on the front!

Recaped Tires
Check with big truck shops in your area , they can put you in contact with local retreaders. There is a retreader in my area that does custom work , he can put tractor tread on 15" and larger tires. A lot of the locals setup there mud trucks with them. This guy is a Bandag dealer and his caps hold up OK. I had 4 on the back of my dump with a rough traction tread , they held up till I cut one down on rock.

I run treadwright BFG A/T TA KO retreads on my X and so far so good; only have about 5k miles on them though. Cold weather, steering axle, highway speeds, they do it all without complaining.
I have them on my cherokee too, but different pattern/size. I have yet to take that offroad or put lotsa miles on it though
I wish they had 315/35/17 drag radial retreads for my mustang, them things get expensive every 10k miles...
