Been having cool, wet weather, ideal for twisting wrenches............so we went camping for the weekend ??
Got back at the truck today, to install the rear window, which I've been looking forward to since Christmas. Got the window in the opening with rubber pulled out over lip all around..needed to "adjust" the glass outwards on the bottom to make rubber seat. Gave it a couple "slaps" just like the manual called for and........yep, broke it !
I love this hobby.. I love this hobby .... I love this hobby....
I'll need to either have one cut or order one from CA. Either way, going to have glass shop break the next one. LOL Willl have windshield installed at the same time.
Boy that sounds familliar,my wife helped me put in some smoked recentley same set up wife in cab while i worked the cord ,every time i got to an inch or so,(pop) finally after many tries , more hand lube, some very sore fingers, plastic putty knives, and a screw driver or to. we got it . I love my wife. JIMMY
At least you wife got out ther and helped you! Try doing the windshield by yourself. FUN, FUN. She was busy reading, so I did not bother.
Got it in though.
Lots of Dawn liquid dish soap and after pulling the cord, butt the bottom of the seal inside with the heel of your hand in an upward direction-not out.
I think the issue I had was I'd used weather strip sealant like the manual suggested, to hold the rubber to the glass first. If I were to attempt it again, and believe me, I am stubborn enough, I would try this method.
Julie; I tried every form of hand-jive to ease the glass up, out, over, under....well you get what I mean. I also tried tapping a short piece of board, with rubber mallet on the inside.
Going to glass shop today; hoping they make house calls.
Went to the glass shop today, dropped both old (broken) and new (broken) rear windows, they will make me another. They are also coming to my place next week to install both the rear glass and windshield.
I will ask them if both original and new glass were the same dimensions; the rubber seals look identical to me.

Good idea - let them break them so they can pay for new ones.
I didn't use any kind of adhesive on mine and it doesn't leak at all. But it was like a squirming worm trying to get it set. I just had to keep popping at it with the heal of my hand - five times on one side five times on the other. Finally it whent slllllllllip pop! and was in!
My neighbor Edgar helped me, he's an elderly Africam American gnetleman (looks alot like a skinny Danny Glover) but he mumbles things constantly.
He was mumbling all kind of things while we were putting mine in and I almost peed my pants he was so funny!
Now you have me shaking in my boots about glass.
I just finished the wiring and I am to move onto the glass.
Do you have a posting with some directions on how to do this?
Thanks again,
Mike
On the bright side the glass is just flat so you don't have to buy some $300 piece each time. lol hope it goes in well next time! *installing glass I think is my least favorite part about builds*
I broke my side glass and the interior shop broke my rear during my build. I was able to get the smoke safety glass locally at a family own lumber yard at 1/3 of the price of a glass shop. Just some input for people to look at different options when buying glass.

It's really fairly easy if you have a second person who understands what you are doing. Bad words help!
You need lots of dish soap on it to help it slip in. And of course it has to be the right size!
The procedure is outlined in the shop manual, and should be duplicated in the instructions you recieved with your seal!!
