If there is not a simple fuse problem (check the manual for which fuses).

Then.. do a reset of the computers as per below.

Did you discharge the computers by turning on the headlamp while the battery is disconnected?

If this simple fix fails, you are into first:

A) testing power at the computer -- if that test good

B) substitute a new computer.

A good parts counter person will usually lend you the part to plug in outside!

If that solves the problem... you got your answer.

Those electronics boxes either work or not work... so that is why a substitution test is about the only card left.

On an '04, isn't the trip computer in the overhead console?

Then why were you checking fuses for the cluster?

So, overhead console. Does the outside temp and compass still work?

If nothing works, then you have a very common problem with the overhead console PC board. If you do an advanced search for "overhead console fix" you will find threads on how to repair it.

Start with this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...-gone-out.html

If it is just one function that is out, but the display still works for temp and compass, then you might have to replace the entire PC board. They are available online and easy to replace.

To be honest bpounds I checked all the fuses, other then changing oil and filters.... I'm not fit to work on a lawn mower. The link you provided looks to be the problem, When I smack it ....It works for awhile.

Thank You

Yep, that pretty much means it has loose solder joints. If you can solder on a PC board, you can fix it.

Another case where the brilliant engineers underestimated the effects of heat shock vibration on electronics.... sigh...

Of all the trucks I've owned this is by far my favorite. And this has been my only problem. I'm glad I found this site, its been very helpful to me.

Thanks Again

trip computer

I am having an issue with my trip computer. The two black buttons light up but not the screen on it. What could be the cause of this? I have checked the fuses and all the fuses are good. thanks in advance.
