Looking at buying a 64k mile 250 crew cab with 6.2L. While test driving went thru computer and saw the mpg is showing 4.3. Mentioned to salesman, he stated its because its only been driven around the yard. They have had for 1 month. No soot in tailpipe as though its running rich. Should I be worried?
Have 2011 Escape with trip computer it mpg has always been consistent over several fill-ups.
looking forward to using this truck to pull our RV thru retirement. Thanks!
I drove my truck 1 mile to and from my job site for 1 month, only. My computer mpg calculator dropped to below 7. Yesterday I drove 140 miles round trip and reset the computer before the trip. It calculated 16 mpg at 60 mph. Sorry, I didn't have an opportunity to hand calculate anything but I think what you see is not a problem, especially if it idled while showing to potential buyers.
One thing to note.. the miles to empty reminder is a combines fuel mileage estimate from the last 500 miles driven, aka.. almost never accurate.. and then the trip fuel mileage.. when I bought my truck was about the same, 3-4mpg.. reset and went for a 10 mile drive, it came up around 12mpg..
In my daily driving my trip fuel mileage shows 9.5 but hand calc is always around 11 - 13 depending on town/highway driving..
