Bit of a predicament here. I traded my 89 f150 on my 04 f150 a little over a month ago. The dealer said he had to replace a plug so that the A/C would function, which in turn would correct the five beeps I was getting for the air bag light, the blender doors would also work, and the odometer reader would once again be displayed. Although, he said he was waiting for the part to come in and he would then schedule an appointment with the dealer to install.
Many calls later (about 3 weeks), and the part arrived, and was scheduled an appointment to have him take it to the dealer on Wednesday May 19. He said it would be ready on Friday. I called on Friday afternoon and he has not heard anything. So I called back Monday afternoon, and he still has not heard anything, and told me he talked to them and they had to rewire everything.??
My woman sensed something fishy about his inconsistent replies (much more that I didn't list), as did I, but I thought I might trust him...anyways, she called the dealer he supposedly had taken it to, and was told that it was never there. Without knowing this, I spoke with the guy I bought it from today, and was told that the dash needs to be replaced because the odometer is broke. He also said I would have it back tomorrow morning.?
Questions:
1) What would you do (keep in mind, he had also sold my trade in already)?
2) I thought the ford dealer had to reprogram the gauges for mileage?
3) Why do I feel like my *** hurts?
4) Anyone know any good lawyers?
Confront him about the location of your truck. The back light on your dash is a bulb that is easily replaced. Tell him you will drop it off at the dealer for him and he can pay the bill. Your woman is right (this time) (don't tell her) about this.
Well it turns out the guy I had bought it from was lying, but only to try and cover up the ford dealers screwing him around...apparently he got into if them after they said they already mistakenly told a girl that the truck was not even there. In fact it was, but the secretary never knew it. They also dragged their feet in fixing it, so the guy that I bought it from said he would do it himself...the dealer still charged him $500 for something though, and yet nothing has been done. Anyways, I suggested taking to a ford dealer that was local to me and he agreed. So I will be taking in next week somewhere and he will pay for the bill. This keeps getting better and better.

My suggestion would be that whatever local dealership you take it to, ask them if they have a good electrical guy or gal there. It sounds like that truck has some real issues. I wonder if anyone ever checked behind the fuse panel for corrosion.
funny thing...as I was driving to a muffler shop to have my birthday present installed, the truck all of a sudden just revved like it was in neutral. So I had remembered a post about the overdrive going out, so I hit the button, and what do you know...it went back in gear. Hit the button again and just revved. Now the fricken overdrive is out!!! The plot thickens...
Yes, it'll be alright without O/D. But u have some issues with this truck. Take to a shop that you know and trust and get all the codes pulled. Get the required work done and it should be ok. Don't let anyone just throw parts at it. Make sure it's a shop that can pinpoint and repair the problem. There are diagnostic trees to follow for this purpose in the powertrain and emissions shop manuals. The problems are listed categorically by both code and symptom. I know that they are expensive, but purchasing an emissions and powertrain shop manual for your truck will be one of the best investments you can make. It will save you both time and money in the long run.
I'm not a transmission guy so I may be wrong, but I'll go out on a limb and say that this overdrive problem is not mechanical but is electrical. But, does the truck actually have only 40K miles or how long has the odomoter read out not been working?
Oldguy...your going out on a limb maybe right. I was going to the guys shop this morning (with my furious woman) and what do you know, O/D was working. I called the guy, and he said it is all (probably) related to the gauge cluster being all wacked out. Which somewhat makes sense, if that is the brains of the truck...so the air bag light does not come on (gives me five beeps five times), the odometer numbers don't show (but I think it should still keep a number in a cache), the blend doors and a/c work but not as you would want them, and now O/D is screwy. I am wondering if this has ever happened to anyone swapping clusters and not getting it programmed? I am starting to think it may have been replaced and not programmed...anyways that guy assured me he will fix it at my local dealer and pay the bill (this coming Tuesday). Oh, I got my 40 series dull exhaust on Today and damn this thing sounds nice...a little loud, but since the woman got it for me its alright by me. Thanks for the all the input.
I understand that these trucks have a cab control module mounted on the back wall of the cab behind the seat back. I don't know what all it does but wonder if that is where the trouble is. Whatever happnes, let us know.
Got my FX4 cluster today, put it in and still no air bag light and still get the beeping. Everything else worked except for the outside temp reading. I put the original back in, because I am suppose to drop it off at the dealer tomorrow to get it fixed on Friday...again. Once again the guy I bought it from said it should be fixed the same day, I guess I will find out. I am wondering if he will even tell me what they are exactly fixing.
