Did the search, but feel better posting to make sure. Any help appreciated.
I bought an 01 7.3 Excursion about 2 months ago. 145,000 miles from the original owner. I am going through the little things. Already did a water pump change with a billet thermo housing. Got the antifreeze leak fixed. I now have a couple of issues nagging me and am wondering if the ICP is the cause. I did pull the plug yesterday and it had oil in it. The only mod performance wise is a used Superchips tuner on tow perf.
I still have some decent lag on low rpm's. The tuner made it better, but I had an 03 F250 with the same tuner and it had no lag. The boots are tight and no uppipe leaks. It runs good once the rpm's go up a little. New oil and all new filters. I also have an extended crank time when warm. Fires instantly when cold. No romps or uneven idle.
In other words, can my lag and longer warm start times be attributed to the ICP? I know it is bad because oil is in the plug. I am just hoping to at least help the warm start. I am getting around 16 mpg normal driving. First post in the 7.3 section as I frequent the Excursion forum. BTW- I ordered a 6637 kit yesterday from RiffRaff. Spoke with Clay and I must say he is a class act and very helpful.
i recently had an extended crank time and noticed some oil on the ICP. replaced and it has cranked fine since then. not sure about the lag....but if you know the icp is leaking then it needs to be replaced anyway. try it first and see if it helps your issues. if not move on....you havent wasted any money because the icp needed to be replaced anyway.
