I've used this forum in the past to help me fix my 99 psd work truck, just picked up a 7.3 limited Excursion with issues so i thought it time to join. Truck came with some sort of banks power pack (six gun tuner, exhaust, big head valve, etc). My wife drives this truck about ten miles a day to work and we use it to pull 31' camper and car trailer on the weekend. A week ago it started dying during use, od light blinking, not shifting into last gear, etc. Today it wouldnt start. Cheap acetron scanner said glow plug malfunction. So far i've replaced the gp wiring harness on both sides, glow plugs, cps, batteries, and the little drain valve that leaks diesel onto the top of block. There is a puddle of oil in the valley, seems to come from back of hpop. I checked the icp this am-oily and has some sort of fuse connected to it that reads "banks". When i crank it the tach jumps a little but no start. Truck is semi warm and has been plugged in for a day. What next?
. Its going to require a good scanner to read it. The cheap ones will not read them deep into the pcm. It picked up the Gpr code..
The transmission shifter is a code on its own. I know nothing about Banks so no help there.
Did u try to crank with icp disconnected? That alone could be enough to keep it from cranking.
How is the truck voltage? Good and strong or are the batteries weak? I missed the new batteries so that only leaves to make sure you keep them nicely charged as you try to get it running.
He mentioned that he replaced the batteries. I 2nd that by unplugging the ICP and try firing it up. Is the nut on the ICP loose? For the HPOP clean up the valley real well and determine that the oil is coming from the HPOP, if it is you may need to do a gasket kit.
Good catch pikacu, I read thu it once and skimmed back again and missed that it was the ex and the battery part. I will edit my original reply and my apologies to the poster for misinfo
The ex does have GPCM so glow plug code could be bad gpcm with the other work you have done.
Scott, there is no nut on the ICP, you mean the IPR. It is located on the back side of the HPOP, where as the ICP is a sensor on the drivers side head.

plugged in buddies snap on fancy dancy scanner.....
p0722 output speed sensor no signal
p0720 output speed sensor circuit fault
p1280 icp circuit out of range low
p0733 3rd gear incorrect ratio
p0500 vehicle speed sensor fault
p0232 fuel pump secondary curcuit high
p0603 internal control module KAM ettor
p1212 ICP not at expected
i cant believe this thing has been running so well before last week.
On an unmodified truck, I'd suspect two issues - ICP sensor or IPR causing 1280 and 1212, and one of the driveline sensors causing 722, 720, 733 and 500. However, all of this happening at once - and I'm trusting that's the case - suggests something else. I'd look first at all the Banks crap, and make sure it is functioning properly. Actually, the first and easiest thing to do would be to disconnect the ICP sensor and see if it starts, but if the problem is with the Banks system, it still may not.
What year is the Excursion? After you try what Mark suggested: Oil leak at the HPOP, check the non serviceable plug on the drivers side of the HPOP , you have to tuck your hand under the bottom & feel for it. Don't take it out if it is loose, just tighten it back up. Codes - write them down then clear the codes. See if they come up again and are current or just some older historical codes.
Mfg daye 06/02. Changed cps, diesel valve also. There was plenty of fuel in pump. Tach isnt moving while crabking. Its warm here and truck has been plugged in for days.
