I have a feeling Im going to drive everyone nuts on this site pretty soon with all my questions, so im going to apologize in advance before i ask the questions that are probably obvious.
When I first bought my truck in November I can still remember my reaction to the way I was shoved into my seat from a dead stop. The power was incredible!!! I thought ford had solved all from the old 7.3 turbo lag.
But it seems like every time ive had my truck in for problems and they started flashing the truck, It got slower each time from a dead stop!
I just got my truck back today (and a big thanks to everyone so far that has been helping me with their ideas ) And they just put a new turbo in it and then they put the latest flash in it. The lag is HORRIBLE! Top and mid range is 100% better though.
So now to my question, Is it truley turbo lag that is the issue? Or is ford just detuning the trucks to try to stop alot of issues? Im buying a tuner from matt that should really improve this issue, but is there a way to mechanically improve whats left of the turbo lag? (short of a diff turbo or twin turbos)
Im sure this has been discussed before but i couldn't seem to locate an exact answer to some of these questions, so I apologize if this has come up alot and Im just dragging up old issues.
Actually the newest flash is lots better than flashes have been for quite a while. It will take a few cold starts for the PCM to "learn", so give it a bit before you pass judgement totally. If you had a performance issue when you took it in then you as a driver may have to get used to the difference in programming. Not that it would be a radical difference anyway. Ford isn't detuning trucks. They are working on longevity issues and emissions control issues. When you get the SCT from Matt you will be more than satisfied with your "non-lag".
