Extended crank time

question for yall,

my truck has always crunk up pretty quick....

recently when the engine is warm and i try to crank it it takes like 2 seconds longer than normal (or when its cold). Get in first thing in the morning and it cranks fine. get in to go to lunch (after it's cooled down for 4 hours) and it cranks fine....go in and eat lunch 45 minutes later (engine still warm) and it takes a couple extra seconds to fire off.

I dont have any scan tools or anything. i pulled the the icp connection and there was a little oil. it doesnt idle rough or have any other symptoms.

After you let it sit, check the oil level in the HPOP, make sure it hasnt leaked down, my other thought was to hook up a fuel presure gage and see if the presure leaks down after sitting.

18 hours to late..

the issue of extended cranking doesnt happen after it sits a while...only happened (so far) when it's warm. like if i went in to a store for ten minutes and came back out it would have the longer crank time.

if it sits long enough to cool off it cranks right away.

Usually the IPR is the cause of longer crank times when warm. I have a spare IPR here at the house, and if your gonna be at Wind Creek over Memorial Day weekend, I can bring it to you. Really nothing to worry about till it wont start.

darn it...we are going to a Corp of Engineers park close to the house for Memorial Day. Thanks tho. So (looking in to your crystal ball) how long do i have before it does not crank? will it progressively get longer and longer until it doesnt start or will it just decide to quit without getting any/much worse?

I recon i need to start filling my tool box with extra sensors and such. definitely will try to before the longer trips we have planned this year.

You might want to remove and clean all of your battery connections, and test your batteries for capacity. Batteries lose capacity with age.

Crystal ball sez, when it decides to quit you will know it...... Sorry, couldnt resist. IPR's are one of those things that you just cant really pin down . It could be as simple as the edge filter in the HPOP might have caught a little debris, or the IPR actuator (the electromagnet on the outside) may not be functioning as strong as it should.
When you took it in for the repairs after the camper incident, did the shop mess with anything engine wise?

no changes engine wise....it was doing this for a couple weeks before the camper incident. i am going to go ahead and replace the icp since it has oil breaking thru and will keep the old one as an emergency spare i guess. if that doesn't help then i recon the IPR will be the next thing to try.

could the CPS have anything to do with it? that is a lot cheaper to throw a new one in versus $200 for an IPR. Plus i could keep the grey CPS as a spare. been thinking of doing this anyway

I doubt very seriously that the CPS has anything to do with it. They are usually good/no good, not much in between on those.

Are yall headed to West Point for Memorial Day?

yep going to shaefer heard. actually going this weekend also. have you been there? it's probably our favorite campground for relaxing so it helps that it's also the closest to home. we were debating on wind creek but since it's been a while since we've camped we were wanting to relax...we go to wind creek for the party

When my IPR went out, the truck would start fine when cold, but then start to idle rough and then would die instead of idling. When it would die, it would not start until it cooled off. I would think that your IPR has a bit to go, but I have no idea whether it will be 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year (probably not the last). Good luck. I hope it does not leave you stranded.
