Why do I have such bad turbo lag?

01 Excursion 4X4 7.3. I bought it in March and I am the second owner. It has 150,000 miles. When I got it, I noticed it seemed to have more turbo lag than my previous 03 F250. I bought a used Superchips 1705 and set it on the perf tow setting. Ran the codes and got an ICP code. It had oil in the connector so I replaced it and installed a 6637 kit. I have driven it this way for about 5,000 miles. Havent towed with it until i get gauges. All of the intercooler boots are tight and do not appear to leak and the up pipes have no soot around them. Full throttle produces a light haze of smoke. I had the same tuner on the 03 and it is about the same smoke wise. The issue is boost comes on like a light switch from a dead stop. If I punch it, it will barely accelerate and then the turbo will light and it pulls like I think it should. Driving down the road and it has almost no lag. Just from a low rpm to full throttle. The EBPV tube doesnt show signs of leakage. It runs good and gets good mileage, it just seems to have more lag than I think it should. Any ideas? Should I be able to punch it from a stop and at least spin the tires? Not wanting to, but it isnt even close to being able to.

I'm not sure if the Superchips can go over multiple years. I would suggest getting a custom tuner and ditch the "one size fits all" crap

Also, is there the possibility the turbo has been replaced. My van tubo can respond that way.

And remember the Ex weighs a heck of a lot more.

Turbo is original. I bought it from the original owner locally. Lady went through a divorce and was awarded the X. She didnt need it because she was awarded a boat also and she sold it too. Ex husband probably isnt too happy. I have all of the service receipts. It runs good, just not as good as my 03 did with the same mods. I will know more when I get gauges. It just has been a few years since I drove a 7.3 and wasnt sure if this lag is normal and I had just forgotten it was there on my 03. Regardless, I plan on adding more mods in the future. Right off of the bat, I had to do water pump and thermostat housing, tires, rotors and pads all around, X codes and F350 blocks and an ICP sensor. Next is shocks, steering stabilizer, 4" exhaust, and gauges. I am taking as much as the wife will give. So, it is in stages....

Yeah, keep in mind the Ex is significantly heavier than the trucks. That coupled with the Ex having 25 less hp.
