77 f250 w/ 351m, automatic trans. So do i have to pull/lift the engine to get the oil pan out? I have all the bolts out and the pan is dropped but i dont have the clearance to get it out completely.
What is it hanging up on specifically? If it's the oil pump, you may have enough room to take the pump off with the pan dropped a few inches, then drop the pump into the pan and take them out together. Someone with that exact setup will need to chime in to be sure, but it's not uncommon to have to raise the motor to drop an oil pan.
I have also did what fmc400 said, on my 460 when it was in a 2wd truck. If you can reach through with an open end wrench to get the oil pump bolts off, you can leter fall down into the pan then get it out.
But, you'll have to go back on with it the same way which is even more aggravating. You'll probably be better off just loosening your motor mount bolts on each side and jacking the motor up some. You can also do it up top with an engine hoist.
After you get it jacked up, you might be able to support it with a long bar across the fenderwells with a short piece of chain so you can move your engine crane out of the way. Just a thought. Good Luck!!
I got it off, thanks. I got pissed off so i just cut the exhaust off under the oil pan then jacked up the body. Came right out. It was going to get new exhaust anyway.
