Ok so I have a 1996 f-250 super duty with the 7.3 and a 5 spd tranny. while installing my south bend clutch this past weekend I managed to break the cast aluminuim transfer case linkage, the part that connects the in-cab shifter to the transfer case. does anyone have any ideas on a better fix then cast aluminum?? i priced one out and its dealer only for about $350.
any ideas on making a better stronger piece?? or am a just going to have to replace it with a new one from the dealer??
It may be a week or so til I can get to it but I'm about to be parting out a 95 7.3 5 speed 4x4 so you don't have to bend over for the stealership. I'm not sure what shape it is in though so let me know if you are interested and I'll scope it out.
those things break all the time. mine broke in the middle of plowing but i refused to pay 250 for one so i tig welded it but that broke right away because its such a bad casting but if you make a small steel plate to bridge the crack and dril a hole on each side of the crack to bolt it and then jb weld the sh#t out of it its way stronger than the stock one. i finished plowing the whole winter without another problem!
Found one at a huge ford trucks only junk yard for $150, it came with the shifter handle and all. If anuone lives in upstate NY. Bill cummings salvage has just about anything you need for a ford truck from early 70's right up to I'd say 2005ish. He is located in west berlln NY. About 5 min from the unadilla race track.
Redman that truck ur parting out wouldn't happen to have a posi rear end would it? If so consider it sold.
Thanks for all the help guys, it reminds me why I joined up.
