inline 6 won't start

I'm new to this forum, and am sure this question has popped up before, lol, but durned if I can find it.
I have a 1989 econoline van with a fuel injected inline 6 engine. The catalytic's were both plugged, making the engine overheat until it shut off.
I've fixed THAT problem, BUT, now it won't start at all.
I've checked the battery, fusible link, starter and solenoid. It has plenty of juice in the battery, and I hear a clicking noise when I try to start it, but it isn't coming from the starter/solenoid. It sounds like it's on the very front of the engine.
BTW, same result when I try to jump it. And, I've replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, wires and cap. It ran after that, until overheated the last time, when I had eliminated all possible reasons for rough run etc, other than the cat's.
I've also checked all the fluids.
Anyone have any ideas I can try?
Thanks in avance 8^)

Do you have a fender mounted starter relay/ solenoid? jump it with a wire or screwdriver see if it starts

yes, I do. Um, where would I use the wire or screwdriver, please? There are 2 "plugs" it it, one green, one grey, each with 2 wires. I'd been looking at the lil box attached to the starter, thinking that was the solenoid. I got someone else to hit the ignition key, and found the solenoid, that IS where the clicking is, so is obviously the trouble.
Thanks 8^)

you can do a search on how to jump fender relay. if you have a standard put it in muetral or the van will jump. usually you jump the 2 big terminlas, some are 3 wire and some are 4 wire.

check the wires going to the fender relay clean them up. Your problem could be multiple things. ie. bad dirty wires going to the fender relay, a bad fender relay. a bad "starter control circuit" this includes any anti theft device, clutch switch/ neutral safety switch.

you should update your profile/signature so it is like mine with details about your truck, engine transmission, etc.

Do you own a manual.if not get one....a lot of times they are $2 on amazon for an old car
