I am new to this forum, and I have been woking on my 2000 XLT 2WD 3.0 Flex Fuel. It is a CA truck, and I need to get it smogged.
The code reads out as P0305 on an OBD II. Misfire #5 cylinder. I have changed plugs, wire, and coil. The misfire is still there. I am assuming my next logical step would be a compression check, and if that comes out good, then it has to be the fuel injector. It also has a nasty chirp that I am convinced is the Idler pulley, as it will quiet down when sprayed from the back side with WD40.
Just checking to see if #5 is a problem child on these engines, it's my first 3.0.

sounds logical to me..........I would add a bottle of techron.
*I would change the fuel filter also then add the techron

Had almost the same problem on the wifes '01 Escape w/3.0. Changed all that you did with no help. Rented a "smoke machine" from my local parts store and hooked it up to power brake hose. Found a leak caused by a bad seal, fixed that and the miss went away. Sorry but forgot the name of the leaking part.

interesting, you had a misfire on #5 and it was caused by a vacuum leak somewhere. Do you remember if you had any other codes or just the p0305.....
This took place a couple of years ago but as I recall, every time I changed something the code would change to a different plug...but it was always a plug code.

The reason i asked( I am not an expert) is because if you get random misfires p0300,or you got lean codes p0171, p0174. A lot of time that might indicate a vacuum leak or something else. When you get one specific code on a cylinder and no other codes usually it indicates and issue with the cylinder
The input is appreciated these things can be tricky and all feed back is great.......
