I personally don't think that 30 lbs of boost will hurt you that bad.
I hit it, travis hits it. and I'm sure others hit it. I dont' think travis runs one.
And btw, I got my info from Clay.....
The guy, you know, who sells the gauges.
How often do you hit it? And for how long? Do you sustain 30+ psi for extended periods?
No 30psi won't hurt you that bad, if the turbo can handle it. Could make it go boom. Or it could be fine. The thing is though, when the MAP sensor senses too much boost pressure and sets the CEL, the PCM goes into "safe mode" if you will, and does not allow the fueling you need. Sure the truck will run and you may not notice it, but if you've got a setup like Neal's, mine, or similar, when it happens, it's NOTICABLE!
If you're not having any issues then it's probably not something to worry about. But if you are flirthing with that threshold, then it's cheap insurance. And it's easy to install. Frankly I'll put one on any of my pickups I'm building with increased hp. I'll go on before other more expensive, items that are sold that have little to no results.
I agree with you ryan.
Its something that cannot hurt.
I throw a CEL from low oil.
Your gonna throw that code before you throw the boost code.
Unless you have enough oil.
I"ve never heard travis talk about setting a code from the MAP though on his drag runs.
This is what I found listed for the code. But it's pretty vague.
Ryan, I was not aware you had all the mods, sorry. P0206 is not an overall high boost fault but an over (expected) boost at idle. I think the spec is some ridiculous value of > 4.3 PSI, at idle. We all know is is basically .. zero. With that said it seems more logical the issue is with the boost eliminator device trapping boost at the MAP side of the eliminator, and not the MAP sensor itself. Might just have some gunk stuck up in there and need to blow it out with compressed air.
Best guess, because I don't have one. Keep Trucking ...

no worries Jim. Yeah, I haven't gotten around to putting some of that stuff in my sig yet. You might be onto something there. I'll take it appart at the MAP and make sure there's nothing in it.
It's more common on the SD's to have a MAP regulator because the sensor is set to trip the CEL and code at around 23-25psi. Since they have larger injectors stock, with a chip they can set that code easily. On the OBS, the sensor is set to trip the CEL and code at closer to 30psi. So with stock injectors and a chip you'll never see it. Even with stage 1's it's hard to achieve with a stock turbo. When you get into stage 2 and larger injectors and larger turbos in the OBS, then it's a good idea to have the MAP regulator in place.
hey bud, I've had a post up about this for a few days now, trying to figure out what the magic number is for overboost (code= p0238) on these OBS'. I did my diy tymar and 4" straight pipe about a month back and got on it real good the other night and overboosted after a two gear downshift So I am also looking at putting on a boost fooler on my 97 because the cali-code trucks with the AB splits stock can boost high enough for an overboost situation. I was just wondering if you knew the exact number at which the sensor trips the CEL, and where you got that from? TIA
OH and FYI, p0238 is the overboost code, so I think you guys ARE more on the right track about maybe the MAP being gummed up or something rather than it being an overboost issue needing a boost fooler.

Thanks for the info. I'll do some research on the OBS overboost number and get back to you. I know some OBS guys that run big injectors/turbos that use them.
yeah for sure bud, I'd appreciate it. hah it's a little un-nerving when you grab a foot full of shut up button and the check engine like slaps you in the face, as to say, " what the $*&@ do you think you're doing? This truck weights 6500lbs". But ney I say to the CEL, ol henry (name of my truck) will do as he pleases
