Free Chip. Need help.

Ok so dad randomly found his old bully dog 4 position chip today while looking through some stuff in the basement. He got the chip about ohhhhhhhhhhhh 6 years ago. he used it on his old CC psd while we hauled our 32' 5th wheel. the chip did great while hauling, we took a 3k road trip with the 5th and remember doing 80mph and never having a problem. so the kid in me wants to go plug and play like a mother f-er but i the reasonable side of me said i should wait. so im on here asking if i can plug and play without destroying anything? i know i might have to be reburned because if i remember right dads was a 96 but all stock except for a dp. so what can i do? I WANNA GO ROAL SOME COAL SOOOOO BAD! give me some good news guys.

I suggest contacting the manufacturer for advice. If you need any manuals or instructions, they'd be the ones to get it from.

I have no experience with any chip / tuner usage. As the CB crowd says, "I'm running barefoot with a mud duck."

That means I don't know anything about nothing when it comes to chips and tuners.

If you're not 100% certain you have everything you need to plug and play, I suggest you wait until you have everything you need.

I wouldn't think it would hurt anything but I'm no expert. I've heard guys running chips on their PSD's with different mods, I would probably try it. But maybe you should be safe. Was your Dad's truck much different then yours?

If you still have stock injectors you really can't do much harm.
The OBS trucks are so pathetic with their fuel output in stock form.

I would plug and play, I don't believe they came out with a California injector till like 1997 or later. Also if your truck never had a chip then make sure you clean off the connector where the chip goes because it has a coating on it. If you don't do that then you have the possiblity of causing the computer to go into limp mod or no start. I would also make sure to disconnect your batteries before doing electrical work.

remember, if that bully dog is a 4 bank chip then most of the tuners out there can reburn it for you. someone like PHP if that's who you were interested in before. if your J3 connection isn't cleaned just right or the chip isn't seated perfectly then your truck will not start with the chip plugged in. when i reinstalled my chip at the track i didn't get it seated perfectly and it wouldn't start, but i already knew that would cause a no start so i just pulled it off and plugged it back in and off we went. Also if the chip was burned for a manual trans and yours is an auto or vice versa then the truck won't start. i would try sending it off for a reburn to PHP or one of the other many tuners out there except for DP-Tuner and see what they can do. if it's a bad chip then they will be able to tell you b/c their computer won't be able to make a connection with it if it's a bad chip.
