Hey guys, having a little more trouble than I thought I was going to with my seat swap so I thought I'd ask. I have a 1987 standard cab F150 that has a bench seat in it. I am trying to swap it out for a 40/20/40 split bench seat out of a later model year, but the mounting brackets are wrong. I was able to pull a lower mount out of a Bronce, but it still doesn't quite match the floor. SO, here are my questions...
Did they make any standard cabs in that year range (87-early90) with captains chairs to swap the mounts out of?
Has anyone done this? What did you do for the middle part of the seat? There won't be anything just bolt in, so I'm thinking custom fab.
If you search google, I know I've read about this issue before on one of the ford forums regarding swapping bronco seats into an f150....can't recall which one though
The first generation Lightnings had captains chairs. Not sure if the floor was different, but can't see why it would be. I had captains chairs from a 94 installed in my 91 Super Cab.
Ok, so I finally figured out what I needed to do and how it needed to be done for mine. In '94, they made a mount that is a solid stamped plate under the buckets and center that connect them all and mount right up with the floor.....HOWEVER, to fit my needs for my stereo equipment, that didn't work, as when it was all bolted down, it only had 3/4" of clearance between the plate and the floor.
SO, what I had to do was drill out all the spot welds for the legs on the plate, weld in a solid plate, and then bolt on the captains chairs mounts for '87-'91 pickups. No drilling in the floor was required, both buckets move independently, and they are soooooooo much more comfortable than the worn out bench. Here are some pictures, it took most of all day yesterday and I found out that welding+lots of beer=really bad welds lol.
lol, I'm 6'0 but most of it is my legs, and yeah, that's me now, only bout 1/2 inch from the ceiling. Hit my head on the top of the A-pillar getting out today.....going to take a little getting used to.
yeah, so I could put on the '87 floor mounts that make that floor pan sit up about 1 1/2" higher than it was with the '94 mounts so I could fit my stereo equipment under it......still working great!
And I did go shampoo the carpet too and got it all nice blue again, once I put that picture on here, I was ashamed
