question about seats
I see that MACS has custom cab vinyl kits and standard cab vinyl kits, only problem is I don't know what mine came out of.
I don't really want to pay for professional upholstery unless I absolutely have to.

The Custom Sab seat springs are right at the bottom and flat, with 5" of foam. The seat fabric attaches at the back near the springs.
The Standard Cab seat springs are higher up, curved, with far less foam, maybe 1" or so. The seat fabric attaches at the back a bit higher up, so less fabric is needed, as far as I could tell.
Does your seat look close to any of mine?

Mine has the same pattern as your custom cab seat, just a different color and the bottom springs are flat on the brackets with thick foam, so I think it came from a custom cab.
It looks like someone may have recovered the bottom of mine, the fabric doesn't look factory and its wrapped a little different than yours but the back is the same pattern. Either way I just ordered the vinyl upholstery from MACS. So hopefully it's not too hard to do.
Thanks for the info!
Thought I'd throw in my 1966 Custom Cab experience with the MACs' upholstery. Took me about two afternoons to complete, what with beer and listening to radio breaks and all. The short answer is “no difference” IMO. I ordered the Macs / Cartouche part #: 48-95712-1, which was labeled “standard cab”. Turned out very nicely using the original custom cab foam – I added some more seat foam,(bought at michaels hobby store), the egg crate kind they made fun of on that F100 restoration TV show a few months back, it works well (can't feel the springs anymore) although it may have raised the seat height a bit. Also used canvas drop cloth from HFreight as a gasket between the springs and the foam, the 4 x 12 size was plenty.
Pics in my albums, hope it turns out well for you. Steve

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
"Foam rubber in seat, 5 in. in cushion and 1 3/4 in. in back"
And...the standard and custom seats had different part numbers and each was only available as a full assembly. D'ya think that's pretty conclusive? Me neither!

Steve
