Phosphonate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Phosphonates are effective chelating agents that bind tightly to di- and trivalent metal ions, preventing them from forming insoluble precipitates (scale) and suppressing their catalytic properties. They are stable under harsh conditions. An important industrial use of phosphonates is in cooling waters, desalination systems, and in oil fields to inhibit scale formation. In pulp and paper manufacturing and in textile industry they serve as "peroxide bleach stabilizers," by chelating metals that could inactivate the peroxide. In detergents they are used as a combination of chelating agent, scale inhibitor, and bleach stabilizer.
EDTA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The reduction of water hardness in laundry applications and the dissolution of scale in boilers both rely on EDTA and related complexants to bind Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions as well as other metal ions. Once bound to EDTA, these metal centers tend not to form precipitates or to interfere with the action of the detergents. For similar reasons, cleaning solutions often contain EDTA.
Seems to me that Ford is basically selling a commercial boiler cleaner.
Antifreeze
Whatever meets Ford Spec.
Transmisssion/transfer case
Not changed by me yet.
Front/Rear end lube
Ford spec synthetic stuff if possible.
Power steering
Generic Ford Spec.

Why don't you throw in a new thermostat....
Don't forget to clean / flush rad properly with VC-9 cleaner.
See this post for the best procedure.
Note: if you don't make them (shop) do it right, they will not.

A lot of shops will just "vacuum" out the old coolant, add in new and tell you it is "done".
6.0 have an oil cooler, a EGR cooler etc that build up scale, and must be cleaned properly with VC-9 or you are wasting your money just changing coolant.
Make sure they use distilled water.
