I can't say how this effects trucks other than 51-52. I tried to install a headliner awhile back. Here are some of the problem areas for me.
The headboard that the headliner slides into was to tight,
the screw holding the courtesy light and switch, caused a crease
and getting the trailing lip over the rear window gasket.
This is what I did to solve the problems;
Trimmed 1.5 inch from the front edge so you don't have to push it in so far.
From the piece removed cut two .75 x 8 inch strips and taped them next to the screw head under the rubber gasket.
Now for the best. I took a nylon cord and placed it under the gasket lip, once an edge is near the gasket start pulling down on the cord slowly and allow the edge of the headliner to fall into place.
That's how I did it this time without any creases. GOOD LUCK with yours.
