AODE and 4r70w question..
OK I have been search and looking and cannot find the answer. Are these transmissions two different trans or are they the same and just the names just used interchangeably? Here is why I ask. I am looking for a automatic trans for my 4.6 DOHC Cobra engine. I have found a few AODE trans cheap but cannot find if the bolt pattern will work. I know the 4r70w will.

They are very similar, but different. The 4R70W grew out of the AODE.
The AODE was not made with a bellhousing that will bolt to your engine, as best as I can remember. Some 4R70Ws won't bolt to it, either.
