96 transmission ?

I have a 96 F150 4x4 with a bad 4r70w. I have an aod from a 93 I parted out. My question is if I use this trans I know it will throw trans codes since this trans has know electronics but will it cause any driveability issues? If its going to cause issues I'll try to sell this trans and find the right one and don't want to do the job twice. Oh and it is a obd2 truck.

It'll throw all kinds of crazy codes, put the truck into limp mode and it'll never pass inspection with a CEL lit. It'll be a big waste of time to even think about using the AOD.

Yeah it won't work worth a damn. I mean the trans itself wouldn't even work because you'd need to make linkage, brackets, and a cable for the throttle valve on the trans (the "kickdown cable") and on that particular transmission the TV cable also controls line pressure. Adjust it wrong and you'll burn the trans up.

If you get a 98+ 4R70W you'll have to repin the connector or swap the electronic over from your old transmission.

See here: TCCoA Transmission Article - Page 16

Lots of good 4R70W info on that site, most of it written by a Ford transmission engineer who had a hand in designing the 4R70W. Used to be over there a lot when I had my old Thunderbird.

as far as passing inspections goes we don't have them in Michigan and it already has the bracket for the tv cable it just wasn't used. What is limp mode exactly.

That bracket is probably for cruise, not a TV cable.

Limp mode will reduce engine performance, and just in general not make it run correctly.
