Hey everyone, I have a question about the AODE/4R70 Trans. Has anybody heard any bad things about it, or is it a good tranny? I know that the E40D/4R100 is the stronger one but is the 4R70 trans used most of all in the f150's?The reason why I ask is I tow a 5200lb TT. I have the tow package and my trucks tow cap. is 7900lbs, it should be ok. I'm just curious about the toughness of the 4R70 trans. Thanks in advance. Rich

I think they are a good transmission. The basic transmission started out as an AOD back in the early 1980's sometime and have evolved from then. We dont see many problems with them at the shop I work in.
I think it's a great transmission. The only drawback is that it is definitely not a heavy duty, workhorse like the 4R100/E4OD. The 4R70W in your truck is pretty much the same as the one you'd find in a V-6 Mustang or a Crown Victoria.
If you want the transmission to last, you should add a transmission temp gauge and consider an additional cooler. The number one killer of the 4R70W is heat.
Well thats good to know Racerguy. I think I would look into the gauge just for piece of mind.Never put one in these newer trannies, would I be able to install it myself and whats recomended for reliable gauge. Thanks for the info Ajrango.
